ABOUT THE AWARDS

Now in its sixth year, the Best Young Tech competition seeks to honor one exceptional technician moving the service repair industry forward through career development, innovation in their role, technical or educational achievement, community service, and importance to the shop. And this year we are adding a similar award for the commercial sector: Best Young Diesel Tech. The winners will be technicians aged 21-35 who represent the highest values and ideals of the auto and heavy-duty service repair industries, respectively, exceed expectations in their current role, and demonstrate measurable passion and impact in their work. For 2026, nominees should be ASE-certified.

Nominations for the 2026 Best Young Tech Award will be judged by the Motor Age technical editors, industry veterans, and CTI trainers. Nominations for the 2026 Best Young Diesel Tech Award will be judged by the Fleet Maintenance technical editors and industry veterans. The winner of the 2026 Best Young Tech Award and Best Young Diesel Tech Award will each receive a roundtrip flight to Las Vegas plus two nights of lodging for a special award presentation during AAPEX 2026, along with prizes valued at $250 from each sponsor.
